My Story

Hi, my name is Kyra Pelton and I am currently a junior at Stanford University. Majoring in Sustainable Design Engineering, an individually designed major in the engineering school, my passions lie in the intersection of environmental sustainability and innovative design. Every aspect of the design process - identifying a problem, ideating, prototyping, and finding a solution - excites me. Always willing to test new ideas and push the limits of design, I want to continue to push the boundaries of my own knowledge.

I have a strong background in engineering, through both coursework and professional experience. I have a deep knowledge of mechanics, including the mechanics of fluids, materials, and thermodynamics, and am excited to apply my knowledge to engineering real-world solutions. As I am deeply interested in learning how the world around me works, my curiosity makes me a continuous learner. I am always willing to tackle new challenges, sometimes fail at them, and learn from those mistakes.

I also have experience in various art forms including ceramics, film/digital photography, and drawing which allows me to express my ideas in a visually appealing and meaningful way. As well as, ceramics has taught me the importance of the delicate intersection of form and function of a piece. The vessels I create on the wheel act as usable art, taking into account the human-centered aspect of design. My art background has made me a better engineer through my abilities to more effectively communicate my ideas, as well as, create visually appealing, beautiful human-based designs and systems.

I hope to combine my passions for engineering, the environment, and art to create a meaningful impact on the world around me.
