PERSONAL LOGO PROJECT
I created this logo for an introduction to product realization class. Combining both laser cut maple wood and clear acrylic, I wanted to create a natural and organic design inspired from nature.
Final Design

Ideation Process
Initially, I spent a lot of time ideating about what kind of identity I wanted to capture with this logo. Meditating on what aspects of myself I wanted to highlight, I hoped to create a design to express my love for the world around me and my passion for the environment. I explored a lot of different designs inspired by nature and the beauty of the natural world. Ultimately, I decided to move forward with the leaf shape because I felt I had a lot of room for creativity with the shape and could play with different color and material combinations to accent my design.

Rapid Prototypes
I wanted to test out how the leaf design would look in 3D and on a wood finish, so I headed to the Product Realization Lab to test out my design. First, I created a prototype from a variety of scrap pieces from around the workshop. I used yarn, spray glue, foam, and plastic. Although this was a rough prototype, it helped me understand how I would go about making the leaf design.

In the wood shop, I tested out how I would attempt to engrave the "kp" initials into the wood. I used the machine etcher, and then smoothed out the leaf shape with the sand machine. I really liked the wooden feel to this design and decided to use wood in my final design to create a natural, environmental feel.
Digital Files
For my final prototype, I wanted to utilize the laser cutter to create the crisp engraved lines I desired for my design. To do so, I created refined sketches of my logo and then used image trace in adobe illustrator to digitalize my design. I decided to hand draw my design, to give it a natural feel. I did not know if I wanted to raster the design into the wood, or create a negative in the wood such that my design pops out. I created both files in illustrator, but ultimately decided to etch it directly into the wood so my design would be easily recognizable. In my final design, I added an acrylic circle to accentuate my wooden etchings and give it a modern look.
