ABOUT

Hi, my name is Kyra Pelton and I am a senior at Stanford University. Majoring in Sustainable Design Engineering, an individually designed major in the engineering school, my passions lie in the intersection of innovative design, art, and sustainability. Every aspect of the design process - identifying a problem, ideating, prototyping, and finding a solution - excites me. Always willing to test new ideas and push the limits of design, I want to continue to push the boundaries of my own knowledge.

I have a strong background in design and engineering, through both coursework and professional experience gained at Tetra Tech Civil Engineering, STRK, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Most recently at the Art Gallery of NSW, I participated in a highly coveted 8-week internship abroad in Sydney, Australia. While there, I supported the award-winning Creative Studio team in various design tasks and also initiated my own special project designing a new Family Concierge Desk to highlight existing Learning and Participation outreach programs.

My background in mechanics (fluids, materials, and thermodynamics) allows me to create beautiful designs both visually and functionally . As most of my classes revolve around product/industrial design, I have hands-on experience with the processes (laser cutting, 3D printing, machining, wood-shop) in the product realization lab at Stanford. With my experience in excel, I have learned to make engineering, marketing, and profit models of the products I have created, such that I am able to understand the design process from conception to execution.

I also have experience in various art forms including ceramics, film/digital photography, and drawing which allows me to express my ideas in a visually appealing and meaningful way. My art background has made me a better engineer through my abilities to more effectively communicate my ideas, as well as, create visually appealing, beautiful human-based designs and systems. I am also an accomplished lacrosse player and enjoy being part of a team that is motivated and achievement focused.

I hope to combine my passions for engineering, the environment, and design to create a meaningful impact on the world around me.
